First Blossom
On Monday, Father Jack spoke about this student who he suggested go with him to “peoples park” down the street to give food and little bottles of shampoo and other supplies to the homeless people who live there. After all the food and supplies had run out, the students stayed and conversed with the homeless. They ask/suggest the homeless not sit on the ground because there may be glass or other harmful things. The student Father Jack suggested come was having a conversation with this one lady who lived on a park bench. The student came to Father Jack and asked if it was alright if he say on the ground. When Father Jack asked why the student responded, “because I don’t want her to have to look up at me when I talk to her.”
Father Jack also spoke about faith and spirituality. He told this story about a student who he asked a question. He asked the student why he hadn’t seen him in church/at mass very much. The student responded by asking what time the church locked its doors. Father Jack, unsure of the exact time, guess around 12 midnight. The student told Father Jack that on his way back to the dorms from being out at night, he would often stop at the church; but because the doors were always locked at that time of night he simply sat on the steps by the doors to the church and thought and reflected. That was his way of connecting with God.
Church is merely a suggested medium through which one can find spirituality and connect with God. You don’t always have to be in church to connect with God or have spirituality.
